Yes, it is the same hardware. I know the delay is a problem, but I love this idea so much that I jast have to build it and test it
I was thinking of lowering the resolution for full room scans and to scan just small areas in high resolution.
If I would scan a room in full resolution, It would take 1600 steps in x-axis by 1600 steps in y-axis = 2,6 mil steps x 0,5 sec = 355.6 hours Which is, I guess, a little too long although the resolution would be OK.
If the resolution is 80 in x-axis and 80 in y-axis (6.400 pixels) the scan takeS still 3,6 hours. I think this setup is not yet usefull for scanning full rooms, but interesting for scanning certain areas of a room.
For scanning full rooms, I had the following idea:
I once tried to reverse-engineer the staricase in my house with Scenect from Faro.
You get a lot data points. If you try reverse engineer the saricase for example with Sketchup, most of these points are useless. You just need the corners and edges.
I was thinking of mounting a webcam on the laser that watches, If the laser beam is on a edge. If so, it makes a measurement.
This method should improve the speed a lot and result in a pointcloud that just has "interesting" pixels.
