Hallo everybody,

to start in the 3D scan area as my new hobby I bought the Xtion Pro Live some days ago.

I installed the Faro Scenect application version 5,2 step by step as described in the manual logged on as Administrator. Unfortunately after connecting the Xtion and starting the application I get the error message 'No motion sensing device found Error Code 0'. Inside Windows device manager the device is listed as PrimeSense Carmine 1.08x without any errors. This happens on two different PCs with the same error message.

Do somebody has any test tool to check the basic functions of the Xtion (hardware, firmware, ...)? Or possibly the same issue and possibly a solution?

Thanks and greetings!

PS: Do somebody knows a german 3D forum for Xtion ...?

Welcome to the forum!

1) Do you run the Xtion on a Laptop? If so, have you set your GPU to run Scenect?

2) Which drivers do you user? OpenNi 2.1?

3) Alternatively, download Skanect and give it a try.

Thanks, wirtumake.

to 1) I run the Xtion on workstations.
Interesting question: How to set the GPU to run Scenect. Inside the application I found no option to this setting.

to 2) I installed OpenNi 2.1 (beta).

to 3) I installed Skanect (nice wording play), but it fails too. Interesting here is the log:

INFO: Starting skanect.
ERROR: Error while detecting CUDA devices: CUDA driver version is insufficient for CUDA runtime version
WARNING: CUDA device specs are NOT enough for GPU fusion.
WARNING: No Kinect for Windows SDK dll found.
INFO: OpenNI2: Device "\\?\usb#vid_1d ...}" present.
INFO: OpenNI2: Number of devices: 1
WARNING: No softkinetic DepthSense dll found.
INFO: OpenNI2: Opening: \\?\usb#vid_1d...}
INFO: OpenNI2: Number of devices: 1
ERROR: No color sensor.

My GPU is a bit older Radeon HD 3870 512MB GDDR4. Could it be, that this causes the error? Is a Nvidia GPU really required?

Greetings
Invers

I have an Nvidea Graphic card. It shows a tray icon which gives the option to dedicate the GPU to a certain Application.

Skanect lets you choose, if the CPU, or the GPU should do the calculations.

Have installed the latest drivers or you graphics card?

Even I have installed the most current driver AMD/ATI don´t have such an option for.

As the log file as well as the application stated a non supported GPU (missing CUDA driver) I assume, that a Nvidia GPU is required for running Skanect.

Can somebody confirm this before I need to buy a new graphic card?

Thanks

Requirements say:

Recording only: Intel Centrino or higher.
CPU Reconstruction: 2 Gb RAM, Intel Core 2.
GPU Reconstruction: 2 Gb RAM, Intel Core 2, Cuda 2.0 compatible graphics card, with 1 Gb of memory
Recommended: Windows 7 (64 bits), Intel i7, 4 Gb RAM, NVidia GTX 560 or higher.

It seems that Cuda is only for Nvidia :(

You can ask th guys at te Skanectforum, if someone made it run on ATI.

Well, next stage. Now a Nvidia graphic card is built in and the log shows:

INFO: Starting skanect.
INFO: Number of CUDA devices: 1
INFO: Device 0: "GeForce GTX 660 Ti" 2048Mb
INFO: Device 0: sm_30, 1344 cores
INFO: Device 0: Driver/Runtime ver.5.0/5.0
INFO: CUDA major: 3
INFO: CUDA GeForce GTX 660 Ti, global memory: 2048M
INFO: CUDA device specs seem ok.
INFO: Could instanciate a GPU fusion successfully.
WARNING: No Kinect for Windows SDK dll found.
INFO: OpenNI2: Device "\\?\usb#vid_1d27&pid_0---1}" present.
INFO: OpenNI2: Number of devices: 1
WARNING: No softkinetic DepthSense dll found.
INFO: OpenNI2: Opening: \\?\usb#vid_1d27&pid_0...1}
INFO: OpenNI2: Number of devices: 1
ERROR: No color sensor.

What´s going wrong here?

In addition I´m back with one question from my first post: Do somebody has any test tool to check the basic functions of the Xtion (hardware, firmware, ...)?

Any information welcome.

Invers.

I found a program for testing you Sensor at:

C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenNI2\Tools\NiViewer.exe

I should show the depth map of the device.

Interesting tool - but unfortunately not the solution.

After starting the screen becomes black and a red cross pointer was visible. Also at the screens buttom the green status of the settings are shown (Image registration, Capture formats, Depth, Image, IR). I played aorund by right clicking menue with different settings - no success. :?

Btw, I found an firmware update program & data from Artec and gave them a try. Even everything seems to be ok (no error nor failure in the log file) but also no success.

Am I the only one with no luck? Could it be that the device is defective?

A confused
Invers.

PS: If helpful I can insert the log but it´s a bit longer.

Hmmmm. I guess you already checked, if the OpenNi drivers are 64 bit and you did not install both 64 and 32bit drivers.

You could ask the guys in the OpenNi forum to have a look on the logfile.

Is you USB port USB 2.0? Asus has had a problem with USB 3.0, but the patch should have fixed it.
