Awesome! The Kinect 2 changes the game. Just stopped my plan to sell kits of Virtuspecs ;)

oh boy, that looks quite good.
just received my Primesense last night and playing with it, still need to do the virtuspec mode.

Any idea when we can order this new Kinect online soon ?

man, technology changes so fast, i bet this new Kinect will be falling down the rank no later than next year.

Very impressive. Was surprised they switched technology from structured light to time of flight. Doesn't look like primesense is making this sensor. I wonder if there is another company behind this.

Looking forward to more info:
- depth resolution also 1080?
- frame rates
- minimum distance
- avail as standalone
- openNI compatible?
- release date

Currently available (and affordable) time of flight scanners are way behind the kinect 2 specs

I would guess it's using a samsung sensor like this or a later unannounced model:
http://techon.nikkeibp.co.jp/english/NE ... lish_PRINT

- Matches 1080 rgb res
- I think the latency matches what microsoft is advertising (40ms)
(...)The integral time of the Z pixel is 10ms per one phase (out of four phases)(...)
- it doesn't cost 6 figures

But... the depth resolution is only 480 x 360, so I hope I am wrong!

... digging a little about Kinect 2 technology

Since consoles have a longer life cycle (5 and more years), I hope that this gadget will stay longer in the market. I wonder if the drivers for the Primesense based sensors can be used for Kinect 2, or if the Scanner software providers (Artec, Manctl, Faro ...) need to adapt their software. I think it will take some time, until we can use our software with the new hardware.

Anyone tried Kinect SDK?

This new sensor looks great; faster and wider field of view.
I wonder if it will be usable as a webcam, so I can use it with my David SLS system too?!?
I hope Skanect will work with it!
