Autodesk, a company with a CAD background, offers a service that lets you generate 3D models from photos for free

http://www.123dapp.com/catch

download the software to you computer, tablet or mobile phone, upload pictures of you object to their cloud service and get a 3D model back.

All of this for free

Autodesk starts a Premium Membership service for 123D Catch that offers 10 premium 3D models per year and a 3D print.
