Hello.

I have seen that future scanner. It is a 3d laser scanner. Whay are the prons and cons of that type os scanner versus structured ligth scanner like virtucube?

The specifications of Photon are better than virtucube or virtuzoom ones?

Thanks in advance

Hi, welcome to the forum!

At the current state, I have just seen videos about the Photon. I can not say much about its quality, since the mechanics are one thing, but the software to get a good model is no easy task too.

I like the project very much, but I think it is too early to make statements about its performance.

Im agree with you that this project sounds good.

An earlier UK project, CADSCAN also is good enough, and its very similar to your virtucube.

Maybe Photon's perfomance will not similar to structured light one. Normally, redlaser and colour camera is not the optimal perfomance like structured light or green laser and BW camera. Do you think the same?

The laser beam has more light scattering than a projected pattern, so the resolution is quite limited and there is inherent noise that is hard to fix. It also greatly varies on the surface being scanned, skin is difficult for example. It is slow, and not sure if texture can be captured.

Nice comparison of scanning techniques

If you have a static object, or lots of cameras for something in motion, nothing beats photoscan at the moment.

I moved the discussion to the thread of Agisoft Photoscan viewtopic.php?f=40&t=38
