Yes, I am trying to build the virtuzoom but I can't find the 360 servo in the U.S. that controls position, only a continuous rotation servo.
also-
Do you think this lens would work?-

Yes, I think this lens will work. Please make sure that you find the right distance between the lens and the camera sensor before you glue it on the case ;)

All the best for your project !

This is a full turn servo. Do you think this would work if you just gave short burts?

This servo is perfect! Thank you for the link. I'll update the parts list.

Is there another projector other than the Acer K11 that would work as well? It's currently unavailable on Amazon and Ebay and also very expensive compared to other projectors. What makes it more expensive?

Why did you choose the beamer instead of a line laser? Is it more accurate?

Hi!

The advantage of a beamer is that you can scale the light pattern to virutally any size you want. You can use the same projector to scan big, or very small objects, as long as you can focus the beamer on the object.

I did some tests with line lasers, but found that the laser line is relatively big. If I would like to scan a fly with such a line laser, the laser line would cover the whole fly and you could not scan any detail.

Unfortunately, Acer discontinued their K11 beamers. Do you know a beamer that might be useable for such a scanner system?

You can get a modified Acer K11 at the David-Laserscanner homepage. They added a special lens to reduce the focal length of the beamer.

Do you think an Acer K130 would work? That's easy to find and affordable for me.

Did you use the David-modified K11 or an unmodified one? Will I need to get an additional lens to reduce the focal length? If so, can you recommend a lens?
