Post subject: | Advice on getting into the 3d scanning industry |
Hi I'm interested in getting into the 3d scanning industry, with a particular focus on using 3d scanning for VFX. Could someone recommend which 3d software would be the best to focus on learning - that is most widely used in the field. Would this be autocad or are there other programmes that are more specialist for scanning large scale objects. Or am I completely missing the mark here and does this depend on the make / model of 3d scanner your using. Many thanks Matt |

As far as I know there isn't formal training for getting a job that involves 3d scanning in VFX. I sort of fell into the position when a buddy of mine started working for Activision's Mocap studio. He contacted me and mentioned an opening in their 3d scanning department. I had no previous knowledge of 3d scanning equipment or software. What got me hired was my ability to learn the software and processes quickly enough to be effective. You'll already have a leg up on most people applying for a 3d scan tech by having an interest, the main problem is finding companies that are actually hiring for the position. as for software, that could depend on the scanner being used but post processing usually happens packages like geomagic, polyworks, gom inspect, zbush, mudbox, 3d coat, Max and Maya. |
