Greetings,

I have been playing around with 3d scanning now for about a month, and I want to say I am kind of having problems.

I tried using 3dcatch, I took about 30 pictures, and then put them into catch and the model I got was terrible. I tried using the David-Scanning software, and well I didn't haven much success with that. Seems it never really recognized my Laser, I had a cheap 20$ level, and when that didn't work, I moved up to using the laser that’s on my Jigsaw, granted it was heavy and it was what worked best.

I decided it was worth the effort and I ordered a green laser from China, so that’s in the mail.

But I am at a stand still, I cant seem to get a decent scan with anything I have tried.
What I am trying to do , is basically scan something as simple as those toys you get from McDonald's,

Can anyone provide me with a link or a reference to a guide or walk through that demo or handhold someone through how to successfully Scan using the David Software, and or Use the 123D Catch software.

I figure, if I can learn using a known good reference, maybe I can master the skills before I try doing my own thing.

I don’t have a budget, but I also don’t want to spend too much for something that’s not going to work.
I just bought a 3d printer, so its hard to justify spending another 1000$ on something right now.

So I was thinking DIY is the way I want to go.

Does anyone have any OMGZ websites this is the best … for 3d printing something?

Dear Menglor, welcome to the forum. I think that you will definitely find a lot of answer to your question in this forum.

You want to scan small toys, the task is not so complicated, but you need to experiment a bit.

You could start with Photoscan, and a camera. Look for it on the forum. 123 autodesk is weird, I am still scared by this line from their Terms of Service. Although quite clear I am wondering: do the 3d-models we upload become their property? Just wondering.

In addition, you warrant that all so-called moral rights in the content have been waived. For each Submission, you represent and warrant that you have all rights necessary for you to grant the licenses granted in this section, and that such Submission, and your provision thereof to and through the Site, comply with all applicable laws, rules and regulations."

I think it's worth for you spending some time just reading different threads, you will learn a lot!

By the way, I think this is the best website you could find, lots of helpful people.
