This system is especially useful for textureless objects, where you need pattern projection. This isn't an idea of mine, but I think a lot of people of this forum have laying around the needed things at home to try this at least in parts:

- a primesense sensor, which is projecting an infrared pattern on your subject
- a camera with an infrared filter (or something like that for example an old floppydisc) to see only the infrared pattern
- the same camera at the same position without an infrared filter to see the RGB-image

Than the model is made from the images with pattern projection and for the Texture the RGB-images are used. For an advanced system see the paper:

That's a cool idea. Have you tried it? I was thinking of projecting a scattered laser beam to help reconstructing the model.

Pattern projection in photogrammetry works very well and the pattern projection of the primesense sensors is optimised for exactly this.

By myself I have successfully tested pattern projection with my old slide projector. Unfortunately the handling in PhotoScan with these images is a little inconvenient (moving and renaming of images). There are many feature requests to simplify this to Agisoft btw.. In Scanner Killer it is a normal workflow, but the stand alone pro version, which is not restricted to a limited polygonsize, is expensive (12.000 $).

It is great. The image method of filter design determines the properties of filter sections by calculating the properties they have in an infinite chain of such sections.
