Scenect is a powerful Software that lets you create and manage 3D pointclouds. It was developed for professional 3D scanners that scan whole houses or other big structures. The company who developed the software, Faro, opened Senect for Kinect scammers. This is a little experiment, I did with Scenect and my Asus Xtion Pro scanner. It shows, how to scan the complex structure of he staircase in my house. |

Having played with this software, do you find the Scenect is noticeably better or worse than Artec, ReMe, or Skanect for certain given tasks? Where does it shine, and where does it fail? |

I think Scenect is the best tool for scanning rooms and large structures. However, you do not get a 3D mesh from it, just a point cloud. Therefore, it is not the best software, if you would like to scan people or objects. |

Hi, I was wondering whether SCENECT would be suitable for making measurements of a room? Would I then need to utilise a different software package to analyse the data further? I'm looking into some research on using Kinect to map indoor spaces (even though it's been done before). I want to compare the results to a laser scanner for example. Would you have any suggestions for some software that would help with this if SCENECT doesn't have that capability? Hopefully nothing too difficult to operate, because my programming skills are terrible! ![]() Thanks, Luisa |
