I am using Skanect pro software and I can’t understand why all of my scans are bent. When I look at the preview before I even start scanning, the model looks like it’s curved. I can’t scan a room or a car because the start and the finish are nowhere near being aligned.

I have bought a Clevo Laptop with a GTX 770 card. The GPU is green. I get frame rates over 15, sometimes over 25. I think my computer is good enough. It seems to me that the sensor is just inferior. Can that be the case?

I attached a pic to explain. The sensor is previewing a flat wall. Can anybody help?

I compared these things:

Skanect and artec trial software.

Carmine 1.08 and 1.09

Everything gave the same results. But what I found was this…

When I got closer to the subject to be scanned, just slightly out from the near limit of the scanner, and scanned the room that way, then it came out square. I wouldn’t have expected that. In other words, get as close as you can to the subject, and as long as there’s enough geometry to keep scanning, it will keep things much straighter.

I just figured this out, and need to test it on a car to see if it works.

One other thing I learned as I was searching this out…if you’re scanning with your laptop unplugged, then you lose frame rate. Plug the power cord in, or change your power settings to keep the FPS up. Crazy, eh?

My experience is, if you make yourself as center of the circle to scan, for large range scan often bent.
But if you make object as center of the circle to scan is no problem. 8-)

I found out that the Carmines aren't well designed ( at least mine aren't) to do larger scans like a car or a room. But I can use my xbox Kinect and scan a minivan and it lines up!
So I take many small Carmine scans and align them together and my overall scan usually is good.
