I just visited Primesense.com an noticed they weren't accepting orders anymore. I'd like to try the Carmine 1.09. I have the 1.08 already. Does the Asus have a similar sensor? Does anybody know how to get ahold of a 1.09?
Thanks,
Toffer

I just found out that Apple has bought Primesense which is why they probably aren't taking orders. Link:

Who knows when they will be available again!?! Anybody have a Carmine 1.09 that they want to sell?

I think Carmine 1.09 won't be available anymore. I anybody has other information, please post.

In my case, I am waiting for Kinect 2 for Windows and will check out the Kinect SDK.

I would be interested to buy a used Carmine 1.09 if anybody is ready to sell. In the meantime, I will try putting glasses on the 1.08

It's a shame they decided to stop selling the devices, but I guess Primesense are busy creating an embedded sensor, for an upcoming Iphone model, or something along those lines.

To my understanding the situation is this:
- Carmine 1.08 - no longer sold --> Use rebranded Asus Xtion Pro Live.
- Carmine 1.09 - no longer sold --> Cubify Sense Scanner. Based on Carmine 1.09, but might be some hardware differences and thus quality output may differ.

Personally, I'm interested in finding out three things:

1. Is it possible to put +2 glasses on Carmine 1.08/Asus Xtion Pro Live and what are the results?
2. Using 3rd party software with the Cubify Sense Scanner, like Scanect or similar, what is the results compared to un-modded or modded Carmine 1.09?
3. Is it possible to mod the Cubify Senses Scanner with +2 reading glasses to decrease focus distance and in return bump up the quality?

I, and possibly many others, would be very grateful if somebody with access to the above mentioned hardware, would help us answer those questions.

What do you guys think?

I used the 2.5 dipole glasses on the Carmine 1.08. It doesn't work. I have yet to try a lesser strength lens like 1.0 or 1.5.
If I could buy a 1.09 I would try it today. But I don't have one so I can't answer.
Thanks for the tip on the Cubify scanner. If I can buy one of them I'll try it with the glasses.
I still would like to purchase a used 1.09 if anybody has one available.

Same here, I've tried +2.5 and +3.0 and it doesn't work nicelly with 1.08 or Xbox Kinect ...

If you intend to scan a big object, most likely you have to do several scans and then stich them together. You can use Skanect or ReMe to get meshes and stich them togeter with mestmixer. Another option is to use Artec and stich it with its internal stitching algorithm.mScenect is, in my opinion, a little problematic, since you need to generate the mesh too.

Thanks raima. Since I posted last, I figured out that I can use the 1.09 w/o glasses at about 60cm from the car. I scanned the car over 250 times in skanect from different angles and export it to David software where I stitched it together to make the fusion. Since then I also got the Artec software too which is better for scanning with the 1.09.

Most recently I scanned a car with a David Structured light system which required only about 100 scans and was more accurate. I would never recommend scanning a car with the 1.09 unless you have a lot of time and the Artec software or a good alignment software.

I an anxious to see the Kinect v2. I saw that Kscan3D is offering the software for it. I haven't seen anybody else offer it yet.

Has anyone out there used the Kinect v2 yet?
